Reference Recipe
- Hook curved scud/pupa hook, 12-16
- Thread Brown 70 denier
Materials
- Bead Gold bead (1)
- Sparkle/Antron dubbing (abdomen) Olive or tan dubbing (pinch)
- Ultra wire (rib) Copper wire (fine, short length)
- Hare's ear / ice dub (thorax) Dark brown dubbing (pinch)
- Partridge fibers (legs, optional) Natural partridge (a few)
How to tie it
- Slide the gold bead to the eye, mount the curved hook, and start the thread.
- Tie in the fine copper wire at the bend for the rib.
- Dub a slim, slightly tapered abdomen of olive sparkle dubbing forward to the 70% mark.
- Counter-wrap the wire rib forward in 5 evenly spaced turns to segment the abdomen, tie off, and helicopter to break it.
- Dub a fatter thorax of dark hare's ear behind the bead to suggest the swelling emerging pupa.
- Optional: sweep a few partridge fibers under the thorax as legs.
- Whip finish behind the bead and cement.
