Reference Recipe

  • Hook curved nymph / jig hook, 12-14
  • Thread Olive 70 denier

Materials

  • Tungsten or brass bead Tangerine / Fl. Orange tungsten or brass bead (1 (3.2mm))
  • Marabou (tail) Olive marabou (1 small clump)
  • Simi Seal / ice dub (body) Peacock or olive arizona simi seal dubbing (pinch)
  • Grizzly hackle (palmered) Burnt orange grizzly (1 feather)

How to tie it

  1. Slide the orange bead to the eye, mount the hook, and start olive thread behind the bead.
  2. Tie in an olive marabou tail one shank length long and bind the butts down to the bend.
  3. Tie in a burnt-orange grizzly hackle by its tip at the bend, tip pointing rearward.
  4. Dub a shaggy peacock Simi Seal body from the bend forward to just behind the bead.
  5. Palmer the hackle forward in 5-6 open, evenly spaced turns and tie it off behind the bead.
  6. Whip finish behind the bead and cement; pick out the dubbing and hackle so the fly looks alive.
