Materials

  • Dry-fly dubbing Fl. Caddis Orange (tan alternate) (pinch)
  • Para-post wing fibers (underwing) Cinnamon (sparse clump)
  • Hungarian partridge feather (wing) Natural mottled grouse feather (1 feather)
  • CDC feather (head) Cinnamon (1 feather)

How to tie it

  1. Mash the barb, mount the dry hook, and start the orange thread behind the eye; lay a smooth base back to the bend.
  2. Dub a slim, tapered abdomen of caddis-orange dry dubbing from the bend to the 65% mark. Use half the dubbing you think so the fly rides high.
  3. Tie in a sparse clump of cinnamon para-post fibers as an underwing, tips reaching the bend, tented over the body.
  4. Strip the fluff from a partridge feather and bind it in curving down over the body as a tent wing, tip to the bend; the mottled feather is the fluttering caddis silhouette.
  5. Tie in a CDC feather by the tip at the 85% mark and take 2-3 wraps as a soft collar/head, sweeping the fibers back over the wing.
  6. Build a small thread head, whip finish, and touch a drop of cement at the eye only, keeping it off the CDC so it stays buoyant.
