Reference Recipe

  • Hook Curved nymph/emerger hook (TMC 2488 or 2487), 20-24
  • Thread Gray 12/0

Materials

  • Razor foam (body/head) Opaque gray (or tan) razor foam (1 narrow strip)
  • CDC puff (wing) White cdc (1 puff)

How to tie it

  1. Start the thread and lay a base along the shank to the bend.
  2. Cut a narrow strip of gray Razor Foam and bind it in by one end at the bend.
  3. Advance the thread forward to the 70% mark.
  4. Pull the foam forward over the shank and bind it down at 70% to form a slim segmented body and thorax; leave the rest of the strip forward.
  5. Tie a small white CDC puff at the 70% mark as the wing, standing up and slightly forward, length about one shank.
  6. Fold the remaining foam forward over the base of the CDC to make a low puff head; bind it behind the eye and trim short, leaving room at the eye.
  7. Whip finish under the head, add a tiny drop of cement.
