- Hook Standard dry-fly hook, 14-20
- Thread Brown 8/0
Materials
- Z-lon (trailing shuck) Amber / brown z lon (small tuft)
- Pheasant tail fibers (body) Natural pheasant tail fibers (4-5 fibers)
- Deer hair (wing) Coastal / natural (1 clump)
- Dubbing (thorax) Brown / PT (1 pinch)
How to tie it
- Run a thread base to the bend.
- At the 65% mark, stack fine deer hair and stand it in an upright 180-degree fan wing, one shank long; trim and bind the butts.
- Tie in a sparse amber Z-lon shuck at the bend, kept short.
- Wrap 4-5 pheasant tail fibers forward as a slim tapered body to the wing; tie off.
- Dub a small thorax around the base of the wing to brace it upright.
- Whip finish behind the eye, cement.
