Collar Folded Partridge Hackle
How to tie it
Start 6/0 fluorescent fire orange thread on a size 14 2XL nymph hook.
Tail: pull an inch or a little better of the webbier, softer Golden Olive Marabou off a blood quill and bind it in one shank length long. The soft fibres are what breathe in the water.
Tie in small copper wire for the rib and throw in a half hitch.
Blend the olive brown Krystal Dub, golden brown Ice Dub and UV light olive Ice Dub together - a cheap coffee grinder does the job - and spin a noodle onto the thread.
Dub from the rear forward, building a little taper toward the front, for a buggy body.
Rib forward with about five turns of copper wire and tie it off behind the head.
Pick the dubbing out with a picker so the body goes properly buggy.
Collar: strip the web off the base of a speckled Partridge hackle, grab it by the tip, stroke the fibres back and bind the tip in behind the eye, then snip the tip off.
Fold the hackle with hackle pliers and take nice open turns so the fibres keep their natural curvature and sweep back. The original was tied back along the body, but folded fibres move better in the water.
Build a neat head with the fluorescent fire orange thread and finish. Run Solarez Bone Dry around the outside of the head and cure it under the lamp; a dab that catches the hackle is no problem and helps hold the fibres out.
