Classic Recipe

  • Hook Standard nymph, 12-16
  • Thread Purple 8/0

Materials

  • Bead Gold bead (1)
  • Tail Brown goose biots (split)
  • Body Purple ice dub (full)
  • Shellback wing White goose biots (V over top)
  • Thorax Orange ice dub (hot spot)
  • Collar Hen hackle (sparse)

How to tie it

  1. Slide a gold bead to the eye and mount the nymph hook. Start purple thread behind the bead.
  2. Tie in two brown goose biots at the bend, splayed into a V for the tail.
  3. Dub a full purple Ice Dub body forward to the thorax.
  4. Tie in two white goose biots on top so they form a V over the back, the shellback wing.
  5. Dub a hot thorax of orange Ice Dub behind the bead. The purple-and-orange clash is the whole trick.
  6. Tie in a sparse hen hackle and take a turn or two for a collar, sweeping fibers back.
  7. Whip finish behind the bead and cement.
