Tyer Recipe

  • Hook Ahrex PR322 rear hook + articulated shank front, 1/0 (rear), articulated to a shank
  • Thread White Riverge PB 140 (or GSP)

Materials

  • Strung hackle (tail) White dry fly hackle (2-4 feathers)
  • Deer Creek Predator Wrap (shank body) Silver pearl deer creek predator wrap (1 length)
  • Pike Skinz (synthetic body) - (several sparse clumps)
  • Hedron Polar Flash Presient/greens (small bunch)
  • Foam (buoyancy, head area) - (small piece)
  • Stick-on eyes - (1 pair)
  • UV resin Clear uv resin (-)

How to tie it

  1. On the rear hook, tie in a white strung-hackle tail and add a drop of glue over the tie-in for a wiggly back end.
  2. Tie in Deer Creek Predator Wrap and wind it up the shank in loose open turns to near the eye, tie off, then trim the material back to length.
  3. Take a small amount of Pike Skinz, cut it in half, taper the ends, and tie in a sparse clump so about 60% lies over the top and 40% under, building a slight bump at the rear to support the flash.
  4. Comb through the Pike Skinz to split the fibres, then add a sparse bunch of Hedron Polar Flash over the top for contrast. Whip and glue the rear hook.
  5. Connect the rear hook to the front articulated shank, start thread on the shank, and repeat the Pike Skinz and flash build-up in stages to form the body, keeping it sparse for good movement.
  6. Tie in a small piece of foam behind the head to add buoyancy so the fly hangs neutral and jerks well.
  7. Add a final darker Pike Skinz collar over the top for the back, sweep everything back, and build a neat thread head.
  8. Whip finish, glue on the stick-on eyes, and coat the head with UV resin and cure.
