Lay a thread base over the rear two-thirds of the shank to the bend.
Cut a black foam strip slightly wider than the gap and taper the rear. Bind it on top at the bend and advance the thread forward in 3 segmenting bands to the 60% mark, cinching a plump black body.
Tie in a sparse dark underwing over the body, tent-style, tips reaching just past the bend.
Figure-8 one black rubber leg on each side at the 60% mark so legs kick out and back.
Fold the 1mm black foam forward over the thorax as a wing case and head; bind at 60% and again behind the eye, leaving a short blunt head.
Post a small fluorescent-orange para-post indicator upright at the thorax for visibility.
Whip finish under the head, trim legs to about one shank, cement.
