Reference Recipe

Moose or microfibett fibers (tail) Dark / dun moose or microfibett fibers (3 per side)
Goose biot or dubbing (body) Pale yellow / amber dubbing (1)
Para-post (post) Hi-vis orange or white (1 clump)
Poly macrame yarn (spent wings) Light dun / white poly macrame yarn (1 clump)
Rooster hackle Ginger / light dun rooster hackle (1 feather)

Start the thread and lay a base to the 75% mark on the long shank.
Post a hi-vis para-post wing upright at the 65% mark and stand it up with wraps around its base.
At the bend, split 3 long tail fibers per side into a wide V, propped on a small dubbing bump; keep them long to match the big Hexagenia silhouette.
Bind a pale yellow biot (or dub a slim yellow body) and wrap forward to just short of the post; tie off.
Figure-8 a full clump of light poly yarn across the post base so the spent wings lie flat and wide; trim each wing to roughly one shank length.
Wind the hackle 5-6 turns parachute-style around the post, secure under the wing.
Dub a pale thorax around the post with figure-8s, whip finish, trim the post short, cement.
