Reference Recipe

  • Hook 1XL-2XL nymph hook, 12-16
  • Thread Fluorescent pink 70 denier

Materials

  • Bead Gold bead (1, sized to hook)
  • Goose biots (tail) Red goose biots (2)
  • Holographic tinsel (rib) Pink wing n flash fibres (1 length)
  • Peacock herl Red-dyed peacock herl (4-6 strands)
  • Hen hackle (collar) Ginger hen hackle (1 feather)
  • Holographic tinsel (wing) Pink wing n flash fibres (1 short section)

How to tie it

  1. Seat the gold bead at the eye and start the pink thread behind it.
  2. Tie in two red goose biots at the 75% mark, splayed into a shallow V past the bend.
  3. Bind in a length of pink holographic tinsel for the rib, then the tips of 4-6 red-dyed peacock herls at the tail.
  4. Rope the red herls and wrap a full body forward to just behind the bead; tie off.
  5. Rib the pink tinsel forward in 4-5 evenly spaced open turns, tie off, snip.
  6. Take 2 sparse turns of ginger hen hackle for a soft collar and sweep back.
  7. Fold a short section of pink holographic tinsel over the top of the body as a Prince-style V-wing; bind at the bead and trim so it reaches the body midpoint.
  8. Whip finish behind the bead, cement.
