Reference Recipe

  • Hook 1XL-2XL nymph hook, 12-16
  • Thread Black 8/0

Materials

  • Slotted tungsten bead Gold bead (1, sized to hook)
  • Goose biots (tail) Brown goose biots (2)
  • Peacock herl Natural peacock herl (3-4 strands)
  • Wire rib Gold wire (1 length, fine)
  • Goose biots (wing) White goose biots (2)
  • CDC feather (collar) Natural dun cdc feather (1)

How to tie it

  1. Slide a slotted tungsten bead to the eye and start the thread behind it.
  2. Tie in two brown goose biots at the 75% mark, splayed past the bend.
  3. Catch in a fine gold wire and the tips of 3-4 peacock herls at the tail.
  4. Rope the herl and wrap a plump body to just behind the bead; tie off.
  5. Counter-rib the wire in 4-5 open turns, tie off, snip.
  6. Tie in a CDC feather by the tip and take 1-2 loose turns for a breathing collar; sweep back and pin.
  7. Set two white goose biots flat as a V-wing over the body; bind at the bead and trim.
  8. Whip finish, cement.
