Materials

  • Bead Gold bead (1 (optional))
  • Goose biots (tail) Brown goose biots (2)
  • Peacock herl Natural peacock herl (3-4 strands)
  • Flat tinsel (rib) Gold oval tinsel (1 length)
  • Goose biots (wing) White goose biots (2)
  • Hen hackle (collar) Brown hen hackle (1 feather)

How to tie it

  1. If using a bead, seat it at the eye of the curved hook; start the thread behind it and run a base back to the start of the bend.
  2. Tie in two brown goose biots low over the bend so they splay in a V (the curved shank drops the tail, giving a humped, larval posture).
  3. Catch in a gold tinsel rib and the tips of 3-4 peacock herls at the tail.
  4. Twist the herl into a rope and wrap forward around the curve in touching turns to the front; tie off.
  5. Counter-wrap the tinsel in 4-5 open turns, tie off, snip.
  6. Take 2 turns of brown hen hackle as a soft collar and sweep back.
  7. Lay two white goose biots flat as a V-wing over the body; bind down and trim the butts.
  8. Whip finish, cement.
