Tail/back Rabbit zonker strip running the length of the fly (1)
Body Crayfish-tone dubbing (rust/brown), shaggy (1 pinch)
Legs Barred rubber legs (4)
Flash Copper or root beer Krystal Flash (2-4 strands)
How to tie it
Tie dumbbell eyes on top of the shank behind the hook eye for a point-up, bottom-crawling ride.
Tie in a rabbit zonker strip at the bend with a tail one half shank length long, leaving the rest of the strip hanging rearward to become the back.
Add flash strands and a rubber leg on each side at the bend.
Dub a fat, shaggy rust-brown body forward to the eyes, adding a second set of rubber legs midway.
Pull the rabbit strip forward over the top of the body Matuka-style, tie it down at the eyes and trim. The full-length fur back gives the 'meaty' crawling silhouette this fly is named for.
Figure-eight dubbing around the eyes, whip finish and pick out the body.
