Materials
Marabou (ringneck pheasant skin) Natural mottled marabou (Small tuft for tail, plus two larger plumes for the wing)
Oval tinsel Silver oval tinsel (Medium, one 6 in strand)
Wool yarn Cream or pale pink wool yarn (One strand split from 3-strand yarn)
Bucktail White bucktail (Sparse pinch for the throat)
Crystal Flash / Flashabou Silver flashabou (Four strands per side (8 total))
Church window feathers (pheasant) Natural bronze/purple church window feathers (Two tips for cheeks)
How to tie it
Mount the 5X-long hook and lay a smooth thread base from the eye all the way back to the bend.
Strip a small tuft of pheasant marabou down to the tips and tie it in at the bend for a tail about one hook gap long; leave the butts in place and bind them forward with open wraps to build a slight underbody, then trim.
Tie in medium oval silver tinsel at the front of the tail, then tie in one strand of cream wool yarn at the same point and bind both back along the top of the shank.
Return the thread to the 90% point and wrap the yarn forward in touching turns to form the body; if it starts to splay, give it a light clockwise spin to rope it up. Tie off and trim.
Take one full wrap of the oval tinsel at the very back, then rib forward in open spirals to the front of the body and tie off with two or three tight wraps.
Stack a pinch of white bucktail, pull out the short hairs to thin it by about a third, and tie it in under the shank as a throat reaching back to the hook point or bend. Use only two or three wraps and trim the butts short.
Moisten your fingers, gather a tuft of pheasant marabou, measure it to the end of the tail, and tie it on top with two pinch wraps. Lay two strands of Crystal Flash on top of the first plume, secure with two tight wraps, then trim the marabou butts.
Tie a second marabou plume of the same size and length directly on top of the first with two wraps, add two more strands of flash on top, lock everything down with tight wraps and trim the butts close.
Take a few medium-tight wraps back over the wing butts to lay them down, then tie in a church window feather tip on each side as a cheek, reaching back about half the body length. Adjust the angle before locking each one in, then trim the stems.
Trim all eight flash strands even with the marabou wing, build a full tapered streamer head from the eye back, whip finish and cement or coat with UV resin.
