How to tie it
Dress a Mustad C49S scud hook with light olive thread and, if you want it to sink, add four or five turns of.020 lead wire in the middle of the shank.
Tie small gold ultra wire in and run it well down into the bend, going deep into the bend on a scud is what gives the finished fly its hunched shape.
Tie olive Scud Back in at the same point, keeping it centred on top of the shank.
Dub light olive UV Ice Dub forward, tapering thicker toward the middle, then switch to a pinch of orange Ice Dub at the midpoint for the egg spot before finishing in light olive again.
Pull the Scud Back over the top with a good stretch, tie it down centred, and fold it back over itself for a second bite before trimming.
Rib forward with the gold wire, pulling down snug so the wire bites into the Scud Back, that is what gives crisp segmentation, then whip finish, brush the underside out for legs and trim them level with the hook point.
