  • Hook 1XL nymph hook, 14-16
  • Thread Gray or tan 8/0

Materials

  • Wood duck or mallard flank (tail) Speckled natural wood duck or mallard flank (few fibres)
  • Abdomen dubbing Gray-brown (callibaetis) (small amount)
  • Wire rib Gold wire (1 length)
  • Mottled turkey (wingcase) Natural mottled turkey (1 section)
  • Flashabou (over wingcase) Pearl flashabou (few strands)
  • Partridge (legs) Brown hen hackle (few fibres)
  • Thorax dubbing Gray superfine dubbing (small amount)
  • UV resin or epoxy (wingcase coat) Clear scud back thin skin (1 drop)

How to tie it

  1. Tie in a short tail of wood-duck or speckled mallard flank fibres, one-third shank past the bend.
  2. Catch in fine gold wire and dub a slim gray-brown callibaetis abdomen to the 60% mark.
  3. Counter-wrap the wire in 5-6 open turns and tie off.
  4. Tie in a mottled turkey wingcase with a few strands of pearl Flashabou over it, facing rearward.
  5. Dub a rounder gray thorax.
  6. Add sparse partridge fibres as legs to each side of the thorax.
  7. Fold the wingcase forward and bind it at the eye, then whip finish.
  8. Glaze the wingcase with a drop of UV resin or epoxy and cure it.
