Power Ant

Terrestrial · Trout · Intermediate · 1 version

Reference Recipe

  • Hook standard dry/terrestrial hook, 10-16
  • Thread Black 8/0

Materials

  • Foam strip Black craft foam mm (1 strip (2 humps))
  • Dubbing Black dubbing (small amount)
  • Rubber legs Black ostrich herl (3 strands)
  • Poly yarn (sight post) Hi-vis orange or pink (small tuft)

How to tie it

  1. Start thread and dub a small, tight rear gaster (abdomen ball) at the bend.
  2. Tie in a strip of black foam at the waist and fold it back to form the rear hump, binding at the midpoint.
  3. Tie in three rubber legs across the shank at the waist so they splay to both sides.
  4. Dub a thin thorax forward.
  5. Pull the foam forward over the thorax to form the front hump and bind it behind the eye.
  6. Tie in a short tuft of hi-vis poly on top as a sight post so you can track the low-floating ant.
  7. Whip finish under the front hump and add a drop of cement.
