Reference Recipe

  • Hook wide-gap stinger/streamer hook (e.g. Gamakatsu B10S), 5/0
  • Thread Black 210 denier

Materials

  • SF Blend (tail) UV black sf blend (1 clump)
  • SF Blend (secondary tail) UV rainbow (1 clump)
  • Flexi Squishenille UV (body) Tan (badger) flexi squishenille uv (1 length)
  • EP Craft Fur Brush (collar/legs) Black ep fiber (1 length)
  • Double Barrel popper body, XL (head) Black ostrich herl (1)
  • Gel super glue Clear head cement (as needed)

How to tie it

  1. Start thread mid-shank and tie in a tail of black SF Blend about two shank lengths long.
  2. Layer a shorter clump of UV rainbow SF Blend over it for flash and contrast.
  3. Tie in the Flexi Squishenille and wrap it forward in touching turns to build a full, buggy body, stopping at the 70% mark; tie off.
  4. Tie in the EP craft fur brush and make 2-3 wraps as a bushy collar and legs, stroking the fibres back.
  5. Whip finish and cut the thread, the popper head mounts ahead of this.
  6. Slot the XL Double Barrel popper body, fill the slot with gel super glue, and slide it onto the front of the shank with the cupped face forward.
  7. Pinch until set; press stick-on eyes into the barrel sockets if desired.
