Classic Recipe

  • Hook Steelhead hook or shank, 2-6
  • Thread Red or pink 6/0

Materials

  • Body Pink, orange, or purple chenille/dubbing (full, bright)
  • Wing Marabou or rabbit strip (long, flowing)
  • Flash Flashabou (throughout)
  • Collar Schlappen or marabou (full)

How to tie it

  1. Mount hook, build a short, bright body of chenille or dubbing on the rear half.
  2. Tie in marabou plumes in stacked layers of your candy colors (orange over pink, or purple over blue) with flash between each layer.
  3. Wrap a full collar of schlappen or one more marabou plume at the front.
  4. Build a head, whip finish. Wet, the whole fly should collapse into one flowing tongue of color.

Substitutions

  • Body instead of Pink, orange, or purple chenille/dubbing: Ice Dub (hot colors) — Flashy body; Laser Dub brush — Pre-made, sparkly
  • Wing instead of Marabou or rabbit strip: Marabou (layered colors) — Multiple colors for popsicle look; Rabbit strip — More undulation in current
