Reference Recipe

  • Hook salmon/steelhead wet-fly hook, 2-6
  • Thread Strong, to match 3/0

Materials

  • Bucktail or arctic fox (tail) Orange, pink, or black bucktail arctic fox (1 clump)
  • Flash Pearl or Flashabou (few strands)
  • Chenille or dubbing (body) Orange, pink, or black chenille dubbing (1 length)
  • Soft hackle (collar) To match soft hackle (1 feather)
  • Hard-foam wog/popper head (pre-shaped, cupped) Angler's choice (1)

How to tie it

  1. Start thread at the bend and tie in a bucktail or arctic-fox tail about one shank length long with a few strands of flash.
  2. Wrap a body of bright chenille forward to the 65% mark and tie off.
  3. Wrap a soft hackle collar in front of the body and sweep it back.
  4. Whip finish and cut the thread ahead of the collar.
  5. Slot the hard-foam wog head, glue the slot, and slide it onto the front with the cupped face forward.
  6. Pinch until the glue grabs and the face sits square to the shank.
  7. Add a drop of glue where the head meets the body to lock it in place.
