Baitfish · Striped Bass · Bluefish · False Albacore · Jack · Snook · Intermediate · 1 version

Classic Recipe

  • Hook Tiemco 811S or Gamakatsu SC15, 1/0-4
  • Thread White or clear mono thread Fine mono tying thread

Materials

  • Body/wing Super Hair or Unique Hair (white belly, olive/tan back) (2 sparse clumps)
  • Flash/lateral line Silver Flashabou or Krystal Flash (2-3 strands)
  • Gill spot Red marker or flash (small dab)
  • Head/body coat Epoxy or thick UV resin (2 coats)
  • Eyes Small stick-on molded eyes (1 pair)

How to tie it

  1. Start mono thread mid-shank and tie in a sparse clump of white Super Hair extending 1.5-2 shank lengths past the bend for the belly.
  2. Tie an equal sparse clump of olive or tan Super Hair on top for the back, with 2-3 strands of silver flash along each side as the lateral line.
  3. Keep it sparse, the resin body depends on light passing through the fibers for its glass-minnow translucence.
  4. Whip finish and coat the front half of the fibers and the shank with epoxy or UV resin, shaping a tapered baitfish body back to about the hook bend.
  5. Set stick-on eyes into the wet resin at the head and mark a red gill slash behind them.
  6. Apply a second coat of resin over eyes and body, cure, and trim the tail fibers to a slight taper (cut a small notch for a forked tail if you like).
