How to tie it
Start the thread behind the eye and lay a base back to the bend, then return it to the front.
Cut a strip of 1/8" Evazote foam one hook-gap wide — on a size 10 TMC 3761 that is about a quarter inch — and bevel one end with a hobby knife or scissors.
Lay the foam along the top of the shank and catch the bevelled tip under tight wraps, then bind the foam down the full length of the shank to the bend and bring the thread forward again.
Strip the fibres off the last half inch of a length of fluorescent chartreuse trilobal chenille to expose the core, and tie the core in at the front of the compressed foam.
Wind the thread back to the front of the fly and throw a half hitch so nothing slips while you wrap the body.
Wrap the chenille forward in touching turns to just behind the eye, keeping one eye-length clear, and tie it off.
Fold the foam forward over the top of the chenille body and secure it with a few light wraps, tightening once it is sitting straight.
Whip finish, then pick a drop of clear nail polish into the thread wraps with a bodkin to seal them.
Trim the foam head to length — short or long to taste — leaving a squared-off tag over the eye.
