Streamer · Shad · Intermediate · 1 version

Reference Recipe

  • Hook short-shank streamer/saltwater hook (e.g. Umpqua XS 420), 2
  • Thread Gray or tan 140 denier

Materials

  • Strung marabou (tail) Shad gray / pearl gray (1 plume)
  • Flashabou Silver flashabou (several strands)
  • EP Minnow Head brush Minnow gray (1 length)
  • Ice Dub (gills/cheeks) UV hot pink ice dub (pinch)
  • Ice Dub (back) UV gray ice dub (pinch)
  • 3D stick-on eyes Gray/silver eyes (1 pair)

How to tie it

  1. Start thread mid-shank and tie in a plume of shad-gray marabou for the tail, about one-and-a-half shank lengths long. Marabou keeps breathing on the pause.
  2. Lay several strands of silver Flashabou over the tail, trimmed a touch shorter.
  3. Tie in the EP Minnow Head brush and wrap it forward in touching turns to build a full, tapered baitfish body, stroking the fibres back with each wrap; stop short of the eye.
  4. Dub a small ball of hot-pink UV Ice Dub at each cheek for the gills. The pink triggers strikes.
  5. Comb a pinch of UV gray Ice Dub along the top for a darker back.
  6. Whip finish a small head and add a drop of cement.
  7. Stick a 3D eye to each side of the head and lock them with a thin coat of UV resin or head cement.
