Poly-Wing Spinner
Dry Fly · Trout · Intermediate · 1 version
Classic Recipe
- Hook standard dry (Partridge SLD), 10-18
- Thread brown (or to match body) 8/0
Materials
- Tail Microfibetts, split (3 per side)
- Body Cinnamon/rust Superfine dry-fly dubbing (as needed)
- Wing Light dun poly (polypropylene) yarn (quarter to third of a strand)
- Thorax Same dubbing as body (as needed)
How to tie it
- Lay a thread base and tie in Microfibett tails split wide into a V with figure-eight wraps.
- Dub a thin, cleanly tapered rust/cinnamon abdomen over the rear two-thirds.
- Cut a short section of poly yarn and split it down to about a third of its thickness so the wing isn't bulky.
- Tie the poly in across the shank at the thorax with an X of figure-eight wraps so it lies flat and at right angles to the hook, spent-style.
- Dub a plump thorax with cross-wraps over and under the wing base to keep the wings splayed flat.
- Trim the wings to about one shank length each side, whip finish a small head.
