Classic Recipe
Hook Curved grub hook, 10-14
Thread To match 6/0
Materials
Weight Lead wire (full)
Body Two yarn colors, shuttle-woven (dark top, light belly)
Thorax Dark dubbing (small)
Collar Soft hackle (optional)
How to tie it
Mount the curved grub hook and wrap the shank heavily with lead wire for a full underbody. Cover it with thread to lock it and start the weave base at the bend.
Tie in two colors of yarn at the bend, a dark strand for the back and a light strand for the belly.
Shuttle-weave the two yarns up the shank, keeping the dark yarn riding over the top and the light yarn along the belly, cinching each cross so the segmentation shows.
Weave all the way to the thorax and tie both yarns off.
Dub a small dark thorax.
Optional: wrap a turn or two of soft hackle as a collar and sweep it back.
