Reference Recipe

  • Hook jig or curved nymph hook, 12-16
  • Thread Olive 8/0

Materials

  • Slotted tungsten bead Orange (hot) slotted tungsten bead (1, sized to hook)
  • Lead-free wire underbody Natural lead wire (few turns (optional))
  • Body thread or thin dubbing Olive ice dub (smooth taper)
  • Wire rib Copper wire (1 length (optional))
  • UV resin Clear uv resin (body coat)

How to tie it

  1. Slide the orange slotted tungsten bead to the eye; add a few turns of lead-free wire behind it for ballast and push them into the bead.
  2. Start olive thread behind the bead and build a smooth, slightly tapered olive body down to the bend and back, keeping it slim.
  3. Optionally counter-wrap a fine copper wire in 5-6 open turns for a hint of segmentation, then tie off.
  4. Whip finish behind the bead.
  5. Coat the entire olive body in a thin layer of UV resin and cure it hard for a glassy, fast-sinking shell.
