  • Hook curved caddis/grub hook, 8-12
  • Thread Brown 8/0

Materials

  • Lead-free wire underbody Natural lead wire (front two-thirds)
  • Abdomen dubbing Cream or pale olive abdomen dubbing (small amount)
  • Thorax dubbing Dark brown dubbing (pinch)
  • Thin skin / latex back Clear or amber scud back stretch plastic (1 strip)
  • Wire rib Gold wire (1 length)

How to tie it

  1. Wrap the front two-thirds of the shank with lead-free wire for a deep-diving belly, leaving the rear bare.
  2. Start thread, bind the wire, and run a base to the bend.
  3. Tie in fine gold wire and a strip of thin skin at the bend.
  4. Dub a plump, pale caddis-larva abdomen forward to the 70% mark.
  5. Dub a contrasting dark thorax over the last third.
  6. Pull the thin skin taut over the whole back and bind it at the eye.
  7. Rib forward with 5-6 open counter-wraps of wire, tie off, whip finish, and gloss the back with resin or head cement.
