Mount the size 2 streamer hook and dress the shank with the white 3/0 flat thread. No weight goes on this one - it is meant to stay light.
Bind a good bunch of red hackle fibres from a large saltwater cape in at the back for the tail. Be generous; a thin bunch looks weak on a hook this size.
Tie in the size 10 silver tinsel for the rib at the tail.
Load blended polar bear underfur into a dubbing loop - or spin it on a rotary vise - and wrap a spiky body forward. It looks unruly dry and tones down once wet.
Bring the silver tinsel forward over the body as the rib and tie it down with plenty of good tight turns on smooth thread; it does not hold as readily as classic tinsel.
Brush the body out hard to pull plenty of fibres free.
Take another red hackle for the throat. Clip along one side of the stem so the fibres cannot slide out, take a couple of turns, then fold the feather back under itself and tie it down.
Lay the black barred rabbit strip along the top and lock it in with good tight wraps. Cut the strip off level with the end of the red tail and trim the hide to a V at that end.
Build the head with the white thread, working front to back and back to front until you have a large head, and whip finish. White thread is used because the head is a big part of this fly.
Press a red doll eye onto each side, then flood the head with UV resin - some on top, some underneath, filling in around the eyes - and cure it under the light. Add a second coat if it needs one.
