Reference Recipe

  • Hook standard-length streamer/saltwater hook, 1-2
  • Thread White 140 denier (then clear mono for the head)

Materials

  • Polar Fibre (belly/underwing) White uni stretch (2 sparse clumps)
  • Polar Fibre (back) Gray or olive synthetic hair (1 clump)
  • Flashabou Pearl flashabou (6-8 strands)
  • Stick-on eyes Silver/black eyes (1 pair)
  • UV resin or epoxy Clear uv resin (head coat)

How to tie it

  1. Lay a smooth thread base from the eye back to the point; a slick base keeps the fibre from spinning around the shank.
  2. Bind a sparse clump of white Polar Fibre on top of the shank at the 75% mark, tips reaching about one-and-a-half shank lengths past the bend. Keep it thin. Half what you think.
  3. Roll the hook over and tie an equal white clump on the underside for the belly, then flip back upright.
  4. Lay 6-8 strands of pearl Flashabou over the top, trimmed to just short of the wing tips.
  5. Stack a clump of gray or olive Polar Fibre on top for the back, keeping the color line low, then sweep all fibres rearward and take a few tight wraps to seat the taper.
  6. Whip finish a small head and coat the wraps.
  7. Press a stick-on eye to each side, then build a smooth UV resin (or epoxy) head over the eyes and thread and cure it hard.
