Mount the Gamakatsu C14S glow bug hook - short shank and stout - and lay a thread base from the head back to about halfway between the barb and the point, then open the wraps up and walk the thread back to the eye.
Turn the fly over. Fold about fifteen strands of Hot Orange Fluoro Fiber around the hook for the gills and bind them down the underside to just past the point, then split the fibres around the hook, gather them on top and take the last four or five turns pulling straight up so they bind tight together. Trim them to nearly a shank length.
Prepare each White Polar Fiber bundle to a candle-wick shape: pull a bundle off the sheet, cut the thickest part out of the base, shorten it by pulling at the tips rather than cutting them, and trim the butts square.
Hold the first bundle tight to the shank, make one wrap while pulling back slightly, then a second tighter wrap. Keep it centred on the shank and tilted up, and bind down as little of the butts as you can - you are not wrapping over this the way you would on most flies.
Bind a second, matching bundle in a step down the shank, almost a high tie. Pinch the thread with your fingers and lock the butts down hard.
Tie four strands of Gliss 'N Glow Silver in at the head of that last bundle, wrapping it around the thread so the first turn nails it to the shank, and bind it down to the base. Give it only a light tug to straighten it. Trim it slightly longer than the polar fibre, cutting a few strands at a time at staggered lengths so it tapers.
Wet your fingers, lay the flash back over the top out of the way, then bind in a third bundle of Polar Fiber, and a fourth up at the front, wrapping to the eye - four bundles in all on a size 4. Four or five hard wraps per bundle, no more.
Whip finish with the knots set toward the back of the eye so the head keeps its taper, and cut the thread off.
Comb the whole wing through so the four bundles blend into one shape.
Press a 7/32 offset-pupil sticky eye onto each side, small side toward the front, seated on the polar fibre so it covers the base of the front bundle and the gaps between the bases. Keep them level, base of the eye at the top of the shank, then squeeze them together to flatten the head slightly.
Mix the Z-Poxy by folding it into itself rather than stirring, which keeps the air bubbles out, and pick any stray hairs out of the mix and off the head before you start.
Coat the head: run the epoxy the full length of the underside first, then over each eye and just beyond it into the polar fibre, sweeping in one direction only - toward the rear of the fly - and keeping the coat thin.
