Materials

  • Elk hair (tail) Natural deer hair (small clump)
  • Dubbing or peacock herl (body) Varies (red, olive, peacock) (pinch / 2 strands)
  • Calf body hair (wing post) White calf body hair (small clump)
  • Grizzly hackle Grizzly hackle (1 feather)
  • Elk hair (overwing) Natural deer hair (small clump)
  • Round rubber legs White or barred rubber legs (2 pairs)

How to tie it

  1. Start the thread and tie in a short clump of elk hair for the tail, about half a shank long.
  2. Dub or wrap the body forward to the 65% mark.
  3. Stand a clump of white calf body hair upright at the 65% mark as a parachute post and lock its base with thread turns.
  4. Tie in the grizzly hackle at the base of the post.
  5. Stack a clump of elk hair and tie it in as a forward-slanting overwing (Trude/Madam X style) reaching to the tail.
  6. Wind the hackle 4-6 turns parachute-style around the base of the calf post, then tie it off.
  7. Anchor a pair of rubber legs on each side with figure-8 wraps, then whip finish at the eye and cement.
