How to tie it

  1. Start the thread and tie in a short elk-hair tail, about half a shank long.
  2. Build a royal-style body: wrap a peacock herl butt, then a band of red floss, then a second peacock herl segment, ending at the 65% mark.
  3. Stand a white calf-hair post upright at the 65% mark and lock its base.
  4. Tie in the grizzly hackle at the base of the post.
  5. Tie in an elk-hair overwing slanting forward, Trude style, to the tail.
  6. Wind the hackle parachute-style 4-6 turns around the post and tie off.
  7. Figure-8 a pair of rubber legs to each side, whip finish and cement.
