- Hook 2XL dry-fly hook, 8-12
- Thread Black 6/0
Materials
- Black elk or deer hair (tail) Black-dyed elk hair (small clump)
- Dubbing or peacock herl (body) Black ostrich or peacock herl (pinch / 2 strands)
- Calf body hair (wing post) White (hi-viz) (small clump)
- Grizzly hackle Grizzly or black hackle (1 feather)
- Black elk hair (overwing) Black-dyed elk hair (small clump)
- Round rubber legs Black ostrich herl (2 pairs)
How to tie it
- Start the thread and tie in a short clump of black elk hair as the tail, about half a shank long.
- Dub or wrap a black body forward to the 65% mark.
- Stand a white calf-hair post upright at the 65% mark for visibility and lock its base.
- Tie in the hackle at the base of the post.
- Tie in a black elk-hair overwing slanting forward, Trude style, reaching to the tail.
- Wind the hackle parachute-style 4-6 turns around the white post and tie off.
- Figure-8 a pair of black rubber legs to each side, then whip finish and cement.
