PMD Wet Fly

Reference Recipe

  • Hook Standard wet-fly / soft-hackle hook, 14-18
  • Thread Pale yellow / primrose 8/0

Materials

  • Fine dubbing (body) Pale morning dun / amber-yellow (pinch)
  • Pheasant tail or wire (rib) Copper pheasant tail or wire (1 strand (optional))
  • Partridge or hen hackle (collar) Light dun / brown partridge or hen hackle (1 feather)
  • Hare dubbing (thorax) Amber dubbing (small pinch)

How to tie it

  1. Start the thread at the eye and lay a base to the bend.
  2. Dub a slim tapered PMD-colored body forward to the 75% mark.
  3. If ribbing, counter-wrap fine wire in 4-5 open turns and tie off.
  4. Dub a small thorax nub in front of the body to prop up the hackle.
  5. Tie in a partridge or hen feather by the tip and take 1-2 turns as a sparse soft-hackle collar, then sweep the fibers back and bind.
  6. Whip finish a small head and add a drop of cement.
