Reference Recipe

  • Hook Long-shank streamer hook (4XL-6XL), 1/0-4
  • Thread Tan or white 6/0

Materials

  • Bucktail (tail) Pale cream / tan bucktail (clump)
  • Mylar tinsel (body) Gold or silver mylar tinsel (1 strand, flat)
  • Bucktail (wing) Pale cream / tan bucktail (clump)
  • Krystal Flash Pearl flashabou (few strands (optional))

How to tie it

  1. Start the thread at the bend and tie in a clump of pale bucktail as the tail, about one shank length long.
  2. Catch in the flat mylar tinsel at the tail and wrap the thread forward to just behind the eye.
  3. Wind the tinsel forward in touching turns to build a smooth body, then bind it off behind the eye and snip.
  4. Stack a second clump of pale bucktail and tie it in as the wing on top, reaching to the end of the tail.
  5. Add a few strands of pearl flash along the wing if desired, then trim the butts.
  6. Build a neat tapered head, whip finish and coat with cement or UV resin.
