Plan B Foam Chernobyl

Terrestrial · Trout · Intermediate · 1 version

Reference Recipe

  • Hook 2XL-3XL dry / terrestrial hook, 6-10
  • Thread Tan or black 6/0 or 140 denier

Materials

  • Foam (two-tone body) Tan over black (or fire orange top) (2mm strip)
  • Rubber legs Barred rubber legs (2-3 pairs)
  • Ice Dub or Krystal Flash (underbody) Peacock / UV ripple ice dub (pinch)
  • Foam (indicator post) Hi-viz pink or orange (small tab)

How to tie it

  1. Start the thread at the bend and lay a base forward and back so the foam won't spin.
  2. Bind a two-tone foam strip at the bend, dark side down, leaving a stub past the bend as a tail.
  3. Cinch the foam down at three points along the shank to divide it into segments, dubbing a thin wisp of peacock Ice Dub between the rear segments for flash.
  4. Pull the foam forward over the top at each segment to form the layered back, binding at each waist.
  5. Anchor a pair of rubber legs at each side segment with figure-8 wraps, angled fore and aft.
  6. Fold the front foam back over itself to make a head, leaving a small hi-viz tab standing as a sight post, and lock it down.
  7. Whip finish behind the head and add a drop of cement; trim legs and foam to length.
