Reference Recipe

  • Hook 2XL-3XL dry / terrestrial hook, 6-10
  • Thread Tan or red 6/0 or 140 denier

Materials

  • Foam (stacked body layers) Assorted bright (red, yellow, orange, tan) foam (several 2mm strips)
  • Rubber legs Barred, assorted bright rubber legs (2-3 pairs)
  • Ice Dub (underbody flash) UV / rainbow (pinch)
  • Hi-viz poly or foam (indicator post) Bright (pink or white) hi viz poly foam (small tuft)

How to tie it

  1. Start the thread mid-shank and run a base the length of the hook.
  2. Bind the first foam strip at the bend and segment it forward with two or three thread cinches to divide the body into cells.
  3. Dub a thin band of UV Ice Dub between the rear and front foam segments so a little flash peeks out at each joint.
  4. Stack a second, contrasting foam strip on top and lock it down at the same segment points to build the layered, colorful body.
  5. Anchor pairs of rubber legs at the side segments with figure-8 wraps, splaying them out.
  6. Tie in a bright hi-viz post at the front for visibility and trim it upright.
  7. Whip finish under the front foam head and add a drop of cement; trim the foam ends square.
