Hook Short-shank stout dry hook (Stubby T or equivalent), 12-16
Thread Tan or yellow 6/0
Materials
Thin foam (0.5mm, abdomen) Tan or yellow foam strip (narrow strip)
Foam (2mm, overbody/indicator) Tan or yellow with hi-viz top (small piece)
Elk or deer hair (underwing) Natural deer hair (small clump)
Rubber legs Barred tan/yellow rubber legs (2 pairs)
How to tie it
Start the thread mid-shank and run a base back to the bend on the short-shank hook.
Bind a strip of 0.5mm foam at the bend and spiral the thread forward, then wrap the foam forward in a spiral to build a small segmented abdomen, keeping it slim so it fits the little hook.
Lock the foam at the 70% mark and trim.
Tie a small clump of elk hair over the top as an underwing reaching to the back of the abdomen.
Bind a piece of 2mm foam over the wing to form the head and back, leaving a stub of hi-viz foam standing as a sight post.
Anchor a pair of rubber legs on each side with figure-8 wraps, angled back.
Whip finish under the foam head and add a drop of cement.
