How to tie it
Start the thread at the 60% mark and lay a short base back toward the bend.
Bind a narrow strip of thin foam at the rear and spiral the thread rearward, then wrap the foam back over it in a tight spiral to build a slim, segmented extended body that reaches just past the bend.
Bring the thread forward and lock the foam down at the tie-in point, then trim the excess.
Load a CDC feather or two in a split-thread loop or dubbing clip and spin it into a rope.
Wrap the CDC forward as a buggy, buoyant thorax up toward the eye, then stroke the fibers back.
Stack a small clump of elk hair and tie it in as a downwing, then split it with figure-8 thread turns so half lies to each side as stabilizers that keep the fly from rolling.
Whip finish at the eye and add a tiny drop of cement to the thread head.
