Midge · Trout · Grayling · Intermediate · 1 version
Reference Recipe
- Hook Curved midge / scud hook, 18-22
- Thread Fluorescent pink 8/0 or 70 denier
Materials
- Bead Silver bead (1, sized to hook)
- Ultra wire (rib) Silver wire (1 strand, extra-small)
- Antron or Zelon (gills) White poly yarn (tiny tuft (optional))
How to tie it
- Slide the silver bead to the eye and start the thread just behind it.
- Catch in the silver wire at the bead, then wind the thread down the shank to the start of the bend in smooth touching turns.
- Return the thread forward to the bead, building a slim, slightly tapered pink body.
- Rib the silver wire forward in 5-6 evenly spaced turns and helicopter it off tight behind the bead.
- If you want gills, tie a tiny white tuft in front of the bead and trim it short.
- Whip finish behind the bead and add a drop of thin cement or UV resin over the body.
