Reference Recipe
- Hook Standard saltwater / bonefish hook, 2-6
- Thread Pink 6/0
Materials
- Bead-chain or dumbbell eyes Silver bead chain eyes medium (1 pair)
- Bucktail or craft fur (tail/antennae) Pink bucktail (small clump)
- Krystal Flash Pearl pink flash (few strands)
- Estaz or SLF dubbing (body) Pink ice dub (1 strand / pinch)
- Grizzly hackle (legs) Pink-dyed grizzly hackle (1 feather)
How to tie it
- Start the thread a third of a shank back from the eye and lash the eyes on top with tight figure-8 wraps, then cement the wraps.
- Carry the thread to the bend and tie in a sparse pink bucktail clump plus a few strands of flash for the tail and antennae, one shank long.
- Tie in a pink hackle by the tip at the bend so it can palmer over the body as legs.
- Catch in the Estaz (or dub a rope) and wrap forward to just behind the eyes, building a slightly tapered shrimp body.
- Palmer the hackle forward through the body in 4-5 open turns, tie off and snip; stroke the fibers down so the fly rides hook-point up.
- Cross the thread in front of and behind the eyes, whip finish behind the eye and add head cement.
