Slide the 2.8mm tungsten bead onto the scud hook, mount it and start the red thread behind the bead.
Shuck: tie in a length of mayfly brown Zelon right on top of the shank, keeping it from rolling around as you wrap back, and keep the underbody smooth with no lumps. Trim the shuck to about one hook gap.
Rib: tie in the gold wire and hold it along the near side of the shank as you bind it down. Do not let it spiral around, the body has to stay smooth.
Body: tie in the bright pink stretch floss at the rear, stretching it as you tie it in, then bring the thread forward without building any bumps. Half hitch and wrap the floss forward in smooth touching turns (a rotary vise speeds this up), making sure there is no twist in it. Tie it off firmly behind the bead and trim.
Rib: take eight evenly spaced wraps of gold wire forward over the body, tie it off behind the bead, break or clip the tag and bury the stub.
Wing: overlap two white goose biots so they splay like a pair of wings, with the top one angled back toward you so thread tension opens rather than closes the gap. Tie them in behind the bead and trim the butts.
Collar: clip a few barbs off the base of a grizzly rooster saddle feather to give the thread something to bite, tie it in and take three full wraps.
Tie the hackle off, trim, build a neat thread collar behind the bead and whip finish.
