Reference Recipe

  • Hook Barbless grab-gape / nymph hook, 12-16
  • Thread Black 70 denier

Materials

  • Bead Fluoro pink slotted tungsten (1, sized to hook)
  • Weight Lead-free wire (few turns under thorax (optional))
  • Tail Coq de Leon (6-8 fibers)
  • Body Natural pheasant tail (5-6 fibers)

How to tie it

  1. Slide a fluoro-pink slotted tungsten bead onto the barbless hook and seat it behind the eye; add a few optional turns of wire under the thorax area and lay a thread base to the bend.
  2. Tie in a small bunch of coq de leon fibers for a tail about a shank length long, then bind in the copper wire.
  3. Wrap a natural pheasant tail abdomen forward to the 60% mark and tie off.
  4. Counter-wrap the copper rib 5-6 evenly spaced turns and secure.
  5. Tie in a length of pearl tinsel for the wingcase, then dub a hare's ear thorax up to the bead.
  6. Pull the pearl wingcase over the thorax, tie down behind the bead, snip, whip finish and cement.
