Pink Cahill

Dry Fly · Trout · Intermediate · 1 version

Reference Recipe

  • Hook Standard dry fly, 12-16
  • Thread Pink or cream 8/0

Materials

  • Wings Wood duck flank (1 pair, upright divided)
  • Tail Ginger/cream material (hackle fibers)
  • Body Pink ears (fine dubbing or floss)
  • Hackle Ginger/cream hackle (1-2 feathers)

How to tie it

  1. Start the thread and tie in a clump of wood duck flank at the 70% mark as upright wings; divide them into two with figure-8 wraps and post the bases upright.
  2. Bind a small bunch of ginger hackle fibers along the shank to the bend for a tail one shank length long.
  3. Dub or wrap a pink body from the bend forward to just behind the wings.
  4. Tie in one to two ginger hackles by the stem behind the wings.
  5. Wind the hackle 2-3 turns behind the wings and 2-3 turns in front, then tie off.
  6. Build a small thread head, whip finish and cement.
