Reference Recipe

  • Hook Standard dry fly, 14-16
  • Thread Pink or tan 8/0

Materials

  • Wing Tan/dun deer hair (1 comparadun clump)
  • Trailing shuck Amber vinyl rib medium (few strands Zelon/Antron)
  • Body Pinkish-salmon (fine dubbing)

How to tie it

  1. Start the thread at the 65% mark. Stack a clump of tan deer hair and tie it in standing upright, then fan it into a 180-degree comparadun wing.
  2. At the bend tie in a few amber Zelon fibers as a short trailing shuck, no longer than half the shank.
  3. Dub a slim pinkish-salmon body from the bend forward to the base of the wing.
  4. Build a small dam of dubbing right behind and in front of the wing to prop it upright.
  5. Whip finish behind the eye and add a tiny drop of cement to the wing base.
