Note: Contested against a published dressing: The only published Pinecone Mouse is AJ Jorgensen's, and it contradicts our stored dressing on the defining material. Reference Recipe

  • Hook 2XL-3XL streamer, 2-6
  • Thread Tan or brown 3/0

Materials

  • Tail Tan/brown crust accent (thin leather or rabbit strip)
  • Body Natural deer hair (spun and packed)
  • Ears Tan foam or leather (2 small tabs (optional))
  • Weed guard Hard mono (optional loop)

How to tie it

  1. Lay a thread base to the bend and tie in a thin leather strip or rabbit strip for a tail about one-and-a-half shank lengths long.
  2. Spin a clump of deer hair immediately in front of the tail and pack it back hard against the tie-in.
  3. Spin and pack successive clumps of deer hair forward, compressing each tightly, until you reach the eye.
  4. Whip finish at the eye.
  5. Trim the deer hair to a mouse shape, flat belly riding low, rounded broad back, tapering to a pointed nose; leave a few longer fibers at the rear as a collar.
  6. Optionally tie in two small ears and a mono weed guard before final trimming, then add a drop of cement to the head wraps.
