Tail Tan carapace (Wapsi Micro Pine Squirrel Zonker)
Body Brown and purple material (Fischer's Flies Perfect Blend Dubbing)
Resin (none)
How to tie it
Seat the 4.0mm purple slotted bead against the jig eye and start the purple 70D behind it, running a base back to the start of the bend.
Tie in a strip of tan micro pine squirrel zonker at the bend, hide side down, with the fur tip extending about a shank length past the hook. Mount it by the leather with the fur stroked rearward so no hairs get trapped under the wraps.
Trim the leather butt at an angle and bind it forward along the shank to the 70% mark so the underbody is already tapered before any dubbing goes on.
Spin the brown and purple perfect blend dubbing into a loop and wrap a shaggy body from the bend forward to the bead, going heavier towards the front so the fly has a wedge shape.
Whip finish behind the bead and brush the whole body out hard with a dubbing brush, leaving it unsealed so the squirrel tail and the picked-out dubbing keep the wet, breathing outline that makes a leech work.
