How to tie it
Mount the size 2 predator hook and start the waxed Nanosilk over the back half of the shank only. This fly is tied tarpon style, so the front of the hook stays bare. Keep the thread base short and near the bend.
Belly: cut a three to three-and-a-half inch clump of white Predator Fibre, wax the thread again (synthetics are slick), and lay it on the underside with three loose wraps, then work back and crank down hard to lock it in.
Back: take a slightly larger clump of chartreuse Predator Fibre, cut it a touch longer than the white, wax the thread and tie it on top the same way. Loose wraps first, then pull down tight. Work through the bundle to make sure everything is bound down, then spin the thread counterclockwise to flatten it and take tidying wraps.
Flash: lay one strand of Lateral Scale down each side along the seam where the white and the chartreuse meet, about as long as the body, with any curve turned inward. Tie both down and trim.
Head: form a short dubbing loop in front of the fibers, load it with long-fibered black seal's fur substitute, spread it out and spin it tight, then brush it out.
Wrap the loop forward over the bulge at the front of the wing materials, stroking the fibers back as you go, to build a collar and head. Tie off, trim the loop and brush out the long stragglers so they trail back. They need to stay exposed once the soft head goes on.
Whip finish twice with a large whip finish tool, taking care not to catch the tool in the hook eye, and cut the thread.
Put a dab of super glue on the thread head, then push the small Stonfo Soft Head over the eye and back onto the head, orienting it right side up.
Restart the thread just in front of the soft head and take four or five wraps as a stop so it cannot slide forward, then whip finish and coat that thread band with UV resin and cure it.
Turn the fly on its side, put a small dot of UV resin in each eye socket, set a stick-on eye into it with a bodkin so the resin squeezes out around the rim, and cure. Repeat on the other side.
