Dry Fly · Largemouth Bass · Smallmouth Bass · Panfish · Intermediate · 1 version

Reference Recipe

  • Hook Standard 2XL dry/hopper hook, 8-10
  • Thread Blue or gray 6/0

Materials

  • Extended body Blue 2mm foam (1 pre-cut strip)
  • Legs Blue/black barred rubber legs (2-3 pairs Sili Legs)
  • Thorax Blue/gray material (thin pinch dubbing)
  • Indicator post Orange 2mm foam (1 small tab)

How to tie it

  1. Lay a thin thread base over the shank to give the foam something to bite into.
  2. Bind a narrow blue foam strip on top at the bend and extend it well past the hook; segment the extended abdomen with 3-4 open thread wraps back over the foam, then bring the thread forward.
  3. Tie in a pair of rubber legs on each side of the shank with figure-8 wraps, leaving them long to trim later.
  4. Dub a slim thorax between and in front of the legs.
  5. Pull the front of the foam strip forward over the thorax to form the head/wingcase and lock it down behind the eye.
  6. Post a small orange foam tab upright for visibility, whip finish, cement the wraps and trim the legs and rear foam to length.
