Phlaming Pheasant Tail

  • Hook Standard nymph, 1XL, 12-16
  • Thread Brown 8/0

Materials

  • Bead Gold bead (1, sized to hook)
  • Tail / abdomen / wingcase Natural cock pheasant tail (5-6 fibers)
  • Rib Copper thorax stripe (fine wire)
  • Thorax Peacock ice dub (2-3 herls)
  • Hot-spot collar Fluoro flame orange (thin pinch Ice Dub or thread)

How to tie it

  1. Seat a gold bead behind the eye and lay a thread base to the bend.
  2. Tie in 5-6 pheasant fibers for a one-shank-length tail; bind in the copper wire.
  3. Rope the pheasant fibers, wrap the abdomen to the 55% mark, tie off, then counter-wrap the rib 5-6 turns.
  4. Tie in a wingcase bunch of pheasant fibers and wrap a peacock thorax, leaving a bead-width gap behind the bead.
  5. Pull the wingcase over the thorax and tie down.
  6. Build a fluorescent flame-orange collar in the gap behind the bead, whip finish and cement.
